Language learning is an innate ability for humans. We learned our native language simply by listening to the world around us. This capability is immense in young children in particular. It is said that a 3-year-old can learn to speak up to three languages at the same time. As we grow older that trait fades, but it does not disappear. To learn a new language is possible at any point in your life. You just need to be dedicated and practice. It takes some time so do not expect to be automatically fluent when you hardly ever heard it before. With a little patience you will be successful. Of course for some people it is easier to learn a different language than it is for others. Generally, the younger you are the easier you will find it. Also, if you are already fluent in a second one, learning a third language is thought to come more naturally. The best teacher you can have is a native speaker or someone who has studied extensively and has spent some time in a country where it is the official language. Also, it is definitely worth considering a language school. A good language learning school will have teachers that are both fluent and experienced. The rates can be slightly high, however it will ensure that good quality tuition is delivered. Regardless, the number one way of becoming proficient in a language is to emerge yourself in the culture where it is spoken. A short stay may not be enough. If you are a student consider a semester abroad. Or an extended vacation. Be sure to speak to the locals and avoid at all cost your native language. You will struggle and be lost in the beginning, but it really will make a difference in the long run. You can learn any language you want - it all depends of how much effort you are willing to make. Just imagining all the job opportunities, good vacations and summer romances you will open the way to and I guarantee you will get there.
