With increasingly tough economic times ahead, a number of small businesses are looking to tighten their belts so they can ride the financial storm. Indeed, many enterprise owners are searching for ways to cut their costs without compromising the business’s integrity or image.
Small businesses tend to be run economically and due to the size of the enterprise usually offer very few opportunities for significant cost savings. However, one area where a small business can consistently save money is with its post. Changing the way it sends its mail can be one way to cut costs. For example, unless it is an absolute requirement that mail is sent first-class, a considerable sum can be saved by sending the majority of the business’s daily outgoing mail by second-class post.
Money-saving ways of sending mail can also add directly to the bottom line. Rather than adopt time-consuming habits such as visiting the post office to purchase stamps, the installation and subsequent use of a franking machine can bring advantages that extend beyond budget benefits. They are convenient and also offer the chance for small business owners to professionally present their enterprise to customers. And by adding the logo to the postage frank, a company suddenly goes up a notch in terms of its image. In addition, many franking machines are now capable of printing elaborate company logos directly onto envelopes. Plus, with the additional purchase of a set of scales, postage costs can accurately be assessed within the office.
But back to the savings; the employee’s time is saved by not sending them out to buy stamps, and mail costs associated with using a postage machine also tend to be cheaper. This is simply because franking machine users are able to get discounted postage rates offering a potentially large saving.
Therefore, any business that does have to send first class post, large letters, packages or bulky items receives higher discounts for the more expensive postal items. That discount could even convert to income in cases where postage costs are charged directly to the customer at pre-agreed rates.
But, whatever the reason for buying a franking machine, once a business acquires one there is no looking back. Staff will relish the fact that they no longer have to trudge to the post office, possibly in poor weather to buy stamps or alternatively drop off post.
